Kbar 14: Gundogs

Gundogs

There are a lot of dogs that caught my attention while I was reading this chapter. They were the American Cocker Spaniel, Golden Retriever, Flat-Coated Retriever, Labrador Retriever and the Irish Setter. The American is interesting because the fur looks so soft, puffy and very golden. The golden retriever was interesting because I would want to have one of those at my house. The flat-coated retriever is interesting because it is a retriever with a back coat not a golden coat like the GOLDEN retriever. The labrador retriever was interesting to me because their coat can be a red fox color. Last but not least the irish setter is interesting because it looks like a golden retriever but in rich chestnut color coat.

Kbar 13: Utility Dogs

Utility Dogs

The interesting dog that seems really cute and soft is the Japanese Spitz. This cute dog is interesting because this Spitz is related to the Pomeranians. The Spitz has a white coat. I think that it will be hard for the coat to be always white because when they take them out for a run they might get dirty. But after all this Spitz makes a good companion. The last dog that seems very unique to me is the Shiba Ina. This dog has a coat of many colors like, red, salt and pepper, black, tan or white. This dog is affectionate, friendly and sensitive but can sometimes be aloof. This dog seems really interesting because the caption in the book, he looks kind of like the Spitz.

Kbar 12: Hounds

Hounds

The first hound that was really interesting to me was the beagle. The beagle existed in the UK. The beagle is an affectionate and determined dog. I would like to have this dog as a pet because in the caption or picture in my book of the beagle, the beagle is rally cute. The second hound that was really interesting was the dachshund. There are six different types of dachshunds. The dachshund I will talk about is the long- haired dachshund. The dachshund is an active and devoted dog. The long-haired dachshund makes a good family pet and also a watchdog; the dachshund has a loud bark for his size. I would love to get a brown and black dachshund just like in the caption because the face looks so cute and what makes him even cuter is the long hair. The last dachshund I found really interesting was the basenji. Basenji means bush thing comes from central Africa. What was really interesting to me was that basenji dogs don't bark. Isn't that cool. The basenji dogs have short and sleek coat that can be black, red or tan. I prefer a tan basenji because they look really nice with that tan color. This dog I would totally get but it seems very unique and I might not find it at a pet shop.

Kbar 11: Bulldogs

Bulldogs

I am still reading Dog Breeds by Joan Palmer. The breed I read about was the two types of bulldogs, they are the old English bulldog and the French bulldogs. Their coats are similar because they are short and smooth but the English one has a closed coat and the French has finely textured. The English can have a coat of a uniform. In this book it says that red is also a color for the English bulldog, I don't think that is right because I have not seen any like that. The French has a color of bridle, pied or fawn. I think that this author instead of putting the exact color, the author found things that matched that color. The character of the English is gentle and good natured, the French is also gentle and good natured but also affectionate and courageous. If I were to have a choice between these two it would be the old English bull dog because he sounds like a pretty nice dog to keep in the house and go play fetch.

Kbar 10: Golden Retrievers

Golden Retrievers

These dogs are larged-sized, with a beautiful golden fur. I wonder if they would look good if they had different color fur. I think that brown would look ok because if you have light brown it kind of looks like a golden color, but black, in the other hand, would look terrible. Golden Retriever can live up to ten to twelve years. That is almost as long as my cousin's Chihuahua lived up to, but he died in 2014 RIP. For male there height can be 23-24 inches tall, for female 21 1/2- 22 1/2. I can see why they are named a larged-sized dog.

Kbar 9: Dogs/Puppies

Dogs/Puppies

Dogs come from a species called Canis Familiaris. For me that is a very interesting name of species because in the second word you can find that there is a word in Spanish and it is familia. Familia means family in English. There are a munch of dogs that do the roles that humans play. I think that is very interesting because imagine if a dog could cook instead of a person. That would be so cool because we would be resting But I also feel bad because the poor doggies have to do the work that humans play. Plain Torture.

Is it ok to Lie?

Is it o.k. to lie?

Today we played a game that is called two truths and a lie. The point was trying to fool the groups we were in.
Trying to fool my Group was kind of fun because it was fun to see my partners face reaction when I said that the statement was true and not the lie. If I told this to my friends outside it wouldn't be so much fun because they might guess it right away because they know me pretty well .

Kbar 8: Slime

Slime

Slime was made in the 1920's. I never knew that slime was that slime was invented a long time ago. I thought it was invented in the 1990's, I don't know why. Viscosity is a measurement of the resistance to flow when a shearing force is applied. Water has very little viscosity. Unlike slime, if you put little force into the slime, the slime will feel like water-like. If you put a lot of force into the slime, the slime resistance is very strong. I didn't know that until know I thought that slime had only one type of resistance which is just to be water-like. Now I know.

Kbar 7: Strength and Friendship

Strength and Friendship

In these last chapters, the main point is where Stanley and Zero climb up this huge mountain. Zero falls down because he can't take it anymore. Then Stanley comes and picks him up and Zero falls over Stanley's right shoulder. I think Stanley is very kind in doing this because only a true friend would do this. this means that Stanley is going to be there when Zero is a downfall. Right now I just thought of a song that is called "Lean on Me" by Bill Withers. We sang this song for our sixth grade graduation. Finally Stanley gets out of Camp Green Lake. Stanley's lawyer comes and begs the Warden to let Zero out also. This book taught me that true friends will support you in difficult times. I really enjoyed this book.

Kbar 6: Secrets

Secrets

(I am almost done with my book, I only need to read 5 more chapters. I read a lot over the weekend, that is why I am done with my book)
The main highlight so far is that Stanley found a lipstick container with the initials K.B. I had no idea from who it was. Until I read ahead it was probably from Kate Barlow. I have no idea what they're going to use it for because it doesn't seem that it will be useful. Another big and main idea was that Zero ran away from Camp Green Lake and Stanley went to go look for him. I don't know if I would run away because they give you food and water. Stanley and Zero had to only eat onions that they had found. I mean, I don't know if I would stay or if I would leave. A funny part in the story for me is that when Stanley starts to write to her mom about the camp, But in the letter he says that they had to swim long distances and have been doing obstacle courses. Also, that they were going to learn to rock climb. I think this is really funny because first of all there is no water in the lake. I am really enjoying this book.

Kbar 5: Digging up

Digging up

Mr. Sir told Stanley to dig holes each day including Saturday and Sunday. If I were in his shoes I would be working till night because digging up holes isn't that easy as you may think. The holes also have to be five feet deep and five feet across every directions. The hole has to be as tall as me because I am also five feet tall. The shovel is Stanley's measuring tool. I think just wants them to suffer because they have been doing bad stuff. Breakfast was served at 4:30. I would have not survived, not even a week. But I might get use to it. There was no electric fence or a regular fence. There was no sign of water in about 100 miles. I would probably not run away because I would be without food for about tree to four days. Mr. Sir warned us about the yellow-spotted lizards.

Universally Superintelligent

Universally Superintelligent

The society that there would be if everyone was superintelligent was that everyone would know good vs. evil. If people were superintelligent then they would probably not do bad stuff. The society would be different today if we were superintelligent because there wouldn't be any bad stuff. For example, drugs etc.. The advantages of having superintelligent is that you would know almost everything. The disadvantage is that some things are to be kept a secret and if you have superintelligent than you would know those secrets. If a person was talking bad about you, then you would get mad because you would know what she was talking about. This is what I think about Universally Superintelligent.

Kbar 4: Prisoner

Felt like Prisoner
Stanley Yelnats had been on the bus for more than eight hours. I would not stand that many hours in a bus because I would get a headache. I can sometimes make it to Los Angeles. The bus driver told Stanley to be careful. Stanley did not know if he meant careful walking down the stairs or careful at Camp Green Lake. If I was him I would be careful at doing everything because I would not know what kind of dangers there might be out there. Then I guy came out his name was Mr. Sir. Just with that name he already sounds kind of mean. I think this is because I wonder who would call themselves Mr. Sir. So far I really like this book.

I Ignorance Bliss

Is Ignorance Bliss?

I don't think that ignorance is bliss because if you have knowledge about anything, people will look up to you and you will have friends that will make you happy. Also I can have a really good job and still be happy.I think that being ignorant in some things is okay because not everyone is perfect, and not everyone knows everything.

Intelligence

Intelligence

I think that intelligence means kind of like having wisdom and knowledge because if you know something then you have intelligence towards that something. For example, if I know what the book is about then, I have knowledge about the book. Another example, is that if you want to study for a test, at the end of the test you will hopefully have some knowledge about what the test was about. Finally, you can also have intelligence when you play a sport. For example, if you start to practice every day you will gain wisdom on that sport. Finally I think that if you have intelligence it kind of means that you have wisdom and/or knowledge about something.

Kbar 3: Daydreaming in the bus

Daydreaming in the Bus

In the next 2 chapters it talks about getting to Camp Green Lake. When Stanley got there he started to daydream. I thought he has going to daydream about how awesome the camp is going to be because this the first time Stanley Yelnats is going camping. Stanley was thinking that maybe, just maybe he would make some friends or at least go swimming in the lake. I would have thought about kind of the same thing because if you have friends anywhere you go, you will have a lot of fun. But the problem with Stanley was that he didn't have any friends. Stanley was at the back of the bus wondering if the guard had fallen asleep but he couldn't see because he had dark sun glasses. I would have done the same thing as Stanley because I would feel kind of awkward sitting there for a long time because I will feel weird. The time has arrived, the bus has arrived to Camp Green Lake but the problem was that there was no green grass on hardly any green. Also, there was no lake. In my head I would be thinking of bad stuff because the camp did not look so pretty as I thought it would look like.

Kbar #2: Camp Green Lake

Camp Green Lake
In this first three chapters it talks about Camp Green Lake. For me that sound like it's going to be a lot of fun because there is going to be a lake. Stanley Yelnats thinks the opposite he says that Camp Green Lake is a camp for bad boys. Stanley is going to Camp Green Lake all because of his no- good -dirty- rotten -pig -stealing- great -great- grandfather, but also because he was at the wrong place at the wrong time. Stanley's last name is so cool because his first name is just spelled backwards, and that is how to spell his last name. I think this book is very interesting because I wonder what the bad boys have to do at Camp Green Lake.

This is me

Ashley Salomon Gaspar

English Period 3

6/5/15

This is Me

Hello my name is Ashley. I live in San Luis Obispo, by Meadow Park. Home Sweet Home.

I wake up around 6:50 to 7:00 in the morning, to get ready for school. When I am ready to go I take a granola bar and eat it on the way to Hawthorne Elementary School. I go to Laguna Middle School on the school bus, route number 5. I am in the 7th grade. My first class is History (Ms. Lincoln), Math (Mrs. August Evans), English (Mr. Coward), Science (Mr. Nett/Ms. Robbins), P.E. (Mr. Ottrando) and finally my elective A.V.I.D. (Mrs. Carlin). I like to play volleyball, basketball and soccer.

When I get out of school, I ride the bus. Bus route number 9. I save a seat for my friends. I get off at Hawthorne Elementary School. Then I walk home or sometimes I bike home. I walk with 3 to 4 friends. One of my friend has a skateboard and the rest of us go walking. We tell jokes and funny stories. We get all our giggles out. Then we get to a corner and a friend leaves. We keep on walking for 3 to 4 minutes, until we get to our houses. When I get home, I eat something simple like a yogurt, fruit, quesadilla or even ice cream. Then I do my homework. This takes me about 2 hours or even more. If I have more time, I go play outside with my friends. But when it starts to get dark outside, we have to get inside and eat cereal. Then we go to sleep. We sleep around 9 or 10 in the night.

Say YES to Smartphones in Class

“Olson, who is also a volunteer EMT, ran the two blocks to a nearby store where a clerk had called 911 after a 1-month-old boy inside the store had suddenly stopped breathing. Olson responded to the store moments before paramedics thanks to his Pulse Point app, which used GPS on Olson’s phone to identify him as within a two-block radius and able to help”

I think kids should have a smartphone in class for these three reasons. They are for educational purposes, they can be for emergencies just like the story about Olsen saving the baby from dyeing and it teaches us digital responsibility.

Smartphones can be for educational purposes in class. Smartphones are very efficient. There are many ways a smartphone can be efficient it is because they are small and light weight compared to a laptop and also because they can be carried by anyone at anytime and anywhere. Smartphones are powerful teaching tools. App developers have been developing educational apps for kids. http://www.ecyclebest.com/resources/smartphones-as-tools-for-education

Kids can use their calculators on their smartphones in the class and other tools. For example kids can take a picture of the homework they have in class. Another way for the kids to use their smartphones in class is with the calculator. There are a lot of dictionaries online so the kids can search a word in an instant. The kids also can use there calendar on their smartphones to see when the dateline of a project is, or to mark an important date.  On the smartphone the kids can take notes and with notes the kids can share the notes with their friends. Finally there are many ways you can use a smartphone as a teaching tool in class. https://www.examtime.com/blog/40-uses-for-smartphones-in-school/

Some people might think that kids are just playing around with their phones but 50% are on educational apps. For example dictionary apps, calculators taking notes or other similar stuff.http://www.educause.edu/visuals/shared/er/ERO1/simon_Figure1.png http://www.gfkmri.com/Portals/6/assets/CIImages/Media_Feb2012_KidsCellPhone.jpg

Another reason why I think kids should have smartphone in class is because of safety. If it was dark outside than the kid or even the adults can take there smartphone and touch the icon of the flashlight and there would be light. There are many other apps. For example Pulse Point. You will know what that is in this story.

“I looked at it and it said CPR needed and it gave the address,” Olson told local ABC affiliate KXLY-TV of the Pulse Point app he had installed on his smartphone. Olson, who is also a volunteer EMT, ran the two blocks to a nearby store where a clerk had called 911 after a 1-month-old boy inside the store had suddenly stopped breathing. Olson responded to the store moments before paramedics thanks to his Pulse Point app, which used GPS on Olson’s phone to identify him as within a two-block radius and able to help, according to KXLY. “I asked the lady standing outside, 'Do you have a medical emergency here?' And she said it's an infant and he's blue,’” Olson told the station. “This guy just came out of nowhere and just scooped the baby up and really knew what he was doing which was such a blessing to all of us,” the store clerk, Lesley Reckord, told KXLY. Olson was able to perform CPR and resuscitate the child. “I don't think I've ever done CPR on an infant before or even rescue breathing and when I got done I shook for about ten minutes,” Olson said. The incident was the first time a rescue has occurred with Pulse Point in Spokane since the fire department there connected the app to its dispatch center, according to KXLY.

The last and final reason is it teaches the kids digital responsibility. Kids can keep track of important dates or schedules. There are many apps for example, flashcards is where you make flashcards and you cannot lose them because they are in one place which is a smartphone. http://www.detroitmommies.com/2011/09/5-free-educational-apps-for-middle-school/

When a kid wants to study their flashcards the kid will know where they are because he has the flashcard app on his smartphone. Another example is the app Dropbox. This app helps kids help ORGANIZE their presentations and papers like their homework assignment. With just one click the kid can share notes with their friends about what they talked about in class. http://www.edutopia.org/mobile-apps-for-middle-schools

Another example is My Homework app this app helps students keep track of their homework assignments, tests and many more things. There are many other apps that can help kids stay organized. For example Evernote, Flashcards and Course Pro and many more. http://therealorder.com/organizing/apps-to-help-students-get-organized/

http://blog.lib.umn.edu/dmc/dmcoitfacultyfellows0809/image/Evans_graph.jpg

http://blog.lib.umn.edu/dmc/dmcoitfacultyfellows0809/image/Evans_graph.jpg

I think that kids should have a smartphone in class because they are for educational purposes. The kids can use the calculator or dictionary app to solve or find out what a word means. In addition, laptops are too heavy to be carrying around with so that is why smartphones are small and light weight. The other reason was because of safety. The kids can call 911 for any emergencies or use their flashlight app on their smartphone. The final reason for kids to have a smartphone out in class is because they can stay organized with many different apps. For example flashcards, Evernote, Course Pro and many more. Those were the reasons why I think kids SHOULD have a smartphone in class.

Interview

The Interesting Talk

This person I interview is my mom’s friend husband. His name is Eduardo. I interviewed him on a Tuesday. We were eating poison berry pie from the Apple Farm. I chose him because he is the first one I thought of to do the interview with. Eduardo has a happy, entertainer, respectful, flexible attitude and personality. He is Mexican. Talks fast and splits apart. For example, pa-pers, sa-cri-fice. His voice is not that deep. What type of music was popular back then? Was that your favorite type of music? “La Cumbia; yes”. How was school back then? Did you guys have to wear a uniform? Who was your favorite teacher? Did you go to college? If you did, which school was it. ” School stared towards the end of January and ends in the beginning of December” : yes uniforms ; In elementary school, in third grade. The teacher’s name is Alicia. “Yes, I did go to college for 2 years at the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico (UNAM).” Were there any electronics back then? IPhone? Computers? He said that he does not quit know, but he said probably. What did you do for fun?  I liked to play fronton, rebote. (handball). I liked to play soccer. But in the house did you play or do chores most of the time? Mostly chores. What is your favorite childhood memory? When my dad took us to see the luchas. To see the SANTO. Do you still watch the luchas? Yes.

The most interesting thing that I learned was that school started in the end of January to the beginning of December. Also, that the Cumbia was popular back then. I thought that rap was going to be popular because right now it is popular. But I guess that rap had not been invented yet.

blue

ROYAL BLUE

The color that I think that represents me is the color BLUE, and here are the reasons why. I like the rain, I like to play outside with my friends and I like the DODGERS !

I like the rain because my mom lets us play and jump in the puddles. Rarely it hails, but lightly, so we go outside and catch the ice. Also, for me it is a very relaxing day that I even so to sleep. Finally, at my house we play board games, like CandyLand or Connect Four. When I think of rain, I think of the color BLUE.

The second reason, why I think BLUE represents me is because I like to play outside with my friends and see the BLUE sky. I play any type of game with my friends like tag, hide-and-seek, volleyball or soccer. Also, I am very active when I play sports. Finally, it is very healthy when I play outside. When I think of being outdoors I think of the color BLUE.

The third reason why I think BLUE represents me is because I like the DODGERS. Their colors are white and  BLUE. I sometimes watch their games. They are from LA. When I think of the DODGERS, I think of the color BLUE.

As you can see, these are the reasons why I think that BLUE represents me are I like the rain, I like to play outside with my friends and I like the DODGERS!!!

Who wants to live in a utopia?

WHO WANTS TO LIVE IN A UTOPIA!

I don't know if I would like to live in a utopian community. And here are the reasons why. I would like to live in a utopia because everything would be perfect. No mean friends or peoples. Everything would be a perfect or an ideal place to live in. I would not like to live in a utopia because there would be people that would mess everything up. And then suddenly a war could happen, and we could all die.

Fictional Utopias

What I learned about utopias was that utopia means the ideal or the perfect place,  ou which means (not) and topos which means (place). That means "no place" or "nowhere". Sir Thomas More made up the word utopia. In www.utopianfiction.com it says that there have been various attempts of real-life utopian communities, mostly in the U.S..
